says she was asleep when the driver came crashing through her wall around 4:30 this morning on haws street. the driver ran off leaving a huge mess behind her in the garage. >> knocked all of our stuff to the middle of the garage. glasses broken. our pictures, important papers, our drier is completely broken. >> police are still searching for the driver. they say he or she may have been under the influence at the time of the crash. san francisco police are also investigating an over night shooting a block from alamo square that injured two people. that happened at about 12:30 this morning on fell and pierce streets. police say it appears shots were fired between two cars. one of the victims managed to drive himself to the hospital and both victims are expected to survive 37 the search is on for the gunman who sprayed a richmond neighborhood with more than a dozen bullets. fragments of one of those bullets wounded a one-year-old

child. lorraine blanco is in richmond talking with police. lorraine. >> reporter: richmond police tell us they are following several leads this morning. but they have no suspects in custody yet. one-year-old elijah ali is in fair condition at children's hospital. at 1:30 yesterday the city shot spotter system captured the rapid gunfire near first street and mcdonald. the intended target a man on his bicycle survived with a shot to his leg. the child underwent emergency surgery for bullet fragments in his neck. the grandfather was feeding the child when the child was struck. although he is dumbfounded by the violence, he is also grateful. >> i feel bad for the people who's kids get shot and pass away. i guess i'm lucky to have my son. he is still alive. thank god. >> i am really angry about this. i a sickened. i am appalled. this is completely unacceptable and it is our highest priority

to catch those who are involved. >> reporter: the police chief also tells us that the city doubled its normal reward to $25,000. hoping to arrest the shooter very quickly. police are looking into whether the shooting was gang related. they are talking with many people in the area and so far again no suspects in custody. reporting live in richmond lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 news. drug sniffing dogs will be patrolling middle and high schools in dublin again. the school district will have dogs that can sniff out illegal and prescription drugs. budget cuts forced them to stop using the dogs in 2007 but they voted to bring them back last year. time is 6:03. search is on for two men who followed people from a light rail station in san jose and robbed them. janine de la vega sat station with -- is at the station with a look at the suspects. >> reporter: i am standing in front of the light rail

station. police say passengers who were riding the train were followed from here and into a neighborhood about a half a mile away and then robbed. police want to know if you recognize these two men. one of them is black, the other is latino and both appear to be in their 20s. this is surveillance video of the two suspects leaving the train on march 8th. investigators say at 7:30 that night suspects followed victims from a train into the 2700 block. that is where they confronted the victims saying they would shoot if they didn't turn over their property. the suspects robbed the victims and ran away. the first is described as being black, 5'10", 180 pounds with a afro wearing a white t-shirt and white and black plaid shorts. the other is latino 5'8", 180 pounds. he f you have any information

about this robbery or if you recognize either of the suspects, you're asked to call police. now a woman was robbed last month after she was followed by two suspects off a light rail station. that one was on ray street but we shared that picture on our morning news. somebody recognized one of the suspects and that is how police were able to catch the suspects in that robbery that just happened to involve another light rail station. so police are really hoping for anybody's help and hoping the same thing will work in this case. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega. new this morning a suicide bomber killed 11 people and injured more than 20 in an attack near the u.s. consulate in pakistan. police in pakistan say the suicide bomber attacked a police convoy. reportedly the target of the attack was a is paramilitary commander. he was not hurt. the taliban claim responsibility for the attack

saying that the paramilitary are part of a system we don't recognize and they are operating against us. meantime a mass rally in north korea today against the united states. coming up at 6:15 the action by the u.s. that has north korea threatening to settle accounts. time now is 6:06. michelle shock is protesting the cancellation of her shows that comes after what concert goers call an antigay rant in san francisco. this is shock sitting outside moe's alley in santa cruz. she is dressed in white with tape across her white that says silenced by fear. during a show in san francisco last month she spoke out against same sex marriage. about two-thirds of the audience walked out. since then most of the clubs on her tour including moe's alley have canceled. investigators in washington state are trying to figure out what caused that massive landslide that forced dozens of people out of their homes.

it happened on wouldbe island near seattle on wednesday. one home has been destroyed. several others damaged. the county is now tagging other homes that are said to be dangerous and investigators have given the all clear to some of the people to return back home. time now is 6:07. we are looking at traffic in the east bay. the fog seems to be closer to the bay and the coast. some of the east bay but not here in lafayette. it's nice and clear between walnut creek and oakland. you can see traffic that moves well to the tunnel. when you get to the other side you will see thick fog. some dense fog on the bridge itself and a little bit at the toll plaza. the metering lights usually gone on at 6:15 which is interesting to see if we'll have big crowd today. this is a look at northbound and southbound 280 on their map

system. you can see the traffic is light there. not a lot of lot of yellow and red spots. let's go to steve. all right, sal. we're in the city. and lincoln center up above that fog. there is definitely fog around coast and bay. visibility near zero in some spots. brent said clear sky there is. and he's dusting off the hawaiian shirt. i can't blame you. mid 70s out in the inland area. the is definitely in place. below though don't be deceived even though it will be mostly sunny here today. it will give us a lot of cloud cover and it will give us rain and thunderstorms. a very warm pattern away from the coast and not bad by it. kind of high clouds and tropical moisture might filter in here. rain returns over the weekend. a lot of cloud cover on saturday and it looks like it will drift across us on sunday. today because of in advance of that system inland temps will

welcome back to the morning news. we have learned a bay area couple died in that big rig crash near davis. it happened yesterday morning on interstate 880. investigators say the big rig driver choked on food and

passed out at the wheel. his truck crashed into the center divide and into a car. the big rig driver suffered moderate injuries. he may face criminal charges. memorial service will be held sunday for a san francisco woman who was hit by a car while she crossed the street. 68-year-old tonya had been clinging to life since last thursday's accident. she suffered severe brain trauma and died on wednesday. she was walking with her husband who suffered minor leg injuries. the driver stayed at the crash and was not arrested. auto thefts are up in san jose and drivers say something needs to be done about it. more than 1800 cars were stolen in january and february. that is a 53% increase over the same time last year. one city council member thinks the prison realignment policy is to blame. >> think we're having arrieres -- our issues with folks coming

out of jail and into the community. >> san jose police auto theft detail ended a year ago due to staffing levels. san jose mayor chuck reed hopes as many as 100 officers will be hired by the end of the year to help address the spike in property crime. north korea is making new threats against the u.s. today. leader kim jong un ordered his rocket forces to be ready to attack. as kyla campbell reports u.s. officials are taking this threat very seriously. >> reporter: the u.s. says it's ready to defend both american soil and south korea after kim jong un said his rocket forces were ready to quote settle accounts with the u.s.. the young north korean leader has intensified his threats against the u.s. in recent weeks. he says he's ready to attack american soil after the u.s. flew b-2 bombers to south korea for military exercises yesterday. south korea says there has been more activity this week at north korea's missile test sites. also the military determined a

rocket launch by north korea in december had the ability to reach the west coast of the u.s.. now some experts say kim jong un is using verbal threats that he won't follow through on. but some fair un will cross the red line without even knowing it. >> a new theme we have seen is the claim that they already have a nuclear weapon that can already hit the united states. that we've only seen about the last three or four months since their successful long range missile test. and nuclear test. >> i just called the pentagon a feminutes ago. so far there is no word on how the military could respond to the threats from north korea. we'll take a closer look at the timeline to see how they have escalated in recent threats. we are learn new details this morning about the condition of south african president nelson mandela. the president is in the hospital getting treatment for a recurring lung infection.

officials say he is in good spirits and making steady process. his office released a statement saying the 94-year-old enjoyed a full breakfast this morning. this is his third visit to the hospital since december. prosecutors are now responding to a plea offer from the colorado movie theater shooting. he's accused of killing 12 people and injuring 70 others. he said he would plead guilty to the charges to avoid the death penalty. prosecutors say it's extremely unlikely they will agree to the offer. they have come up with ideas to reduce crime. coming up in eight minutes the first of its kind nation-wide program the cities where people can sign up for the $400 shotgun in training. a boxing champion is in trouble with the law. he was arrested at jfk yesterday when airport security found an unloaded handgun inside a locked gun box.

guerrero says the firearm is registered in california but new york law enforcements says he's not licensed to carry that gun in new york. he was there to promote a may 4th bout against floyd mayweather junior. supreme court is not expected to rule for months on proposition 8 and the defense of marriage act. but time magazine is declaring gay marriage has already won. the weekly news magazine has two different covers. one features a lesbian couple from new york and the other features a gay couple from southern california. time says the cover story features america's change in attitude toward same sex marriage. one chic-fil-a restaurant is serving up free food in support of same sex marriage. on monday the owner of a chic- fil-a gave free meal coupons to a group of same sex marriage advocates. he wanted to show that chic-fil- a does not discriminate despite previous comments by kathy.

if all goes according to plan repairs to fire damage restaurant in berkeley could be finished by hid june. the world famous restaurant was damaged in an early morning fire earlier mismonth and has been closed ever since. the new restaurant will feature elements from a japanese shrine and american craftsman style. reconstruction expected to start in just about two weeks. >> loot of people looking -- a lot of people looking forward to that restaurant reopening. >> yes, they are. sal, you're looking at the south bay. >> yes. we have a camera mounted on a building in downtown san jose. looking at 280 northbound and southbound. we don't have a lot going on. but the traffic is light today. it is good friday. the markets the financial markets are closed. that means financial people may have the day off. also some schools are observing good friday. they are closed as well. around this time of year many schools observe spring break. so we have a lighter than usual commute at the bay bridge toll

gas prices may have already peeked for -- peaked for necessary year. but analysts say gas prices started climbings at the end of last year and started slipping in mid february. gas prices hovering around $4 down 15 cents or more in the last month. google wants to deliver more than information. it's testing google shopping express. which brings groceries and other products to customers the same day as the order is placed. the test is being conducted in san francisco and a few communities on the northern end of the peninsula. google says it's part of an effort to increase consumer reliance. if the test goes well the service will expand. the tax deadline is rapidly approaching. and we already know that one social media mogul is going to owe the irs a lot of money. there is a new survey about texting and driving and teenagers are not the big

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. mark zuckerberg may want to unfriend uncle sam. he is expected to owe more than $1 billion in taxes this year. that is because he decided to

use a stock option to buy shares. zuckerberg planned for it though. he sold half of those shares to cover taxes. they are lunching a first of its kind program to arm americans. the armed citizen project wants to give free shotguns to single women and homeowners living in high crime neighborhoods. applicants have to go online and fill out a questionnaire and pass a background check. organizers hope to bring the program to arizona, texas, and other cities including new york, detroit, by the end of the year. >> if you're a criminal are you going to have a plaque that says this neighborhood protected by armed citizens are you going to break into that neighborhood? or are you going to go to the next neighborhood? >> gun recipients would receive firearm training but gun control advocates fear the shotguns will end up in the hands of criminals or young children. time now 6:25. at & t is releasing a new survey on distracted driving

of this house. witnesses could not tell if the person was a man or woman but they appeared to be la tee no -- latino or pacific islander. it was enough to wake up everybody in the house. >> on my way to sleep. i felt this big jolt and it was shaking. i thought it was a big earthquake. and then we looked outside and saw the car on the sidewalk. >> reporter: many items inside the garage were ruined including a drier. a car parked outside was also damaged. police are running the license plates right now. they say the car was recently sold and oftentimes in these cases the driver is usually drunk and flees the scene and a few hours later when police catch up to them they will say the car was stolen and they

didn't do it. but police say they have to remind them it's a crime to report a false crime. the person will face hit and run charges and possibly dui. the people that live here say they boarded up the side of the home where the hole was to keep the neighborhood raccoons out. live in san francisco i'm tara moriarty. richmond police call the case a top priority. they are searching for the gunman that opened fire outside an apartment building. a one-year-old boy was hit. coming up in 12 minutes the condition of that young victim plus the steps police are taking to catch the shooter. san jose police are hoping surveillance video will help them track down two men accused of robbing people. janine de la vega is at the light rail station where police say it all started. janine. >> reporter: brian, this is the second time the last couple of months where passengers from a light rail were followed off a train and robbed in a neighborhood. the fierceness accident happened at the ray street light rail station.

this latest one was three teenagers who were the victims. police want you to take a good look at these two men. one is black the other is latino and both appear to be in their 20s. on march 8th these two men followed the three teenage boys off the train from the light rail station which is near capitol avenue. this is video of the two suspects getting off the train. investigators say they confronted the victims in a neighborhood about a half a mile away it was there where they threatened to shoot the boys if they didn't turn over property. after victims were robbed the suspects ran away. the first is black, 5'10", 180 pounds with a afro. the second latino 5'8", 180 pounds. if you have any information you are asked to please call police. and as the morning goes on,

the holy land where jesus is believed to have been crucified and buried and resurrected for a good friday morning mass. earlier today they will walk in presessions following jesus' footsteps. right now some peace activists are beginning their march to the lawrence livermore laboratory. these are live pictures coming from there. for three decades antinuclear groups have held good friday protest there. again this is live shot from the lawrence livermore lab. the demonstration officially begins a half hour from now. past protestors blocked the lab's main gate. this years theme is based on the title dr. martin luther king junior's book where do we go from here? chaos or community? a fire truck responding to a call crashed in oakland. that happened about 9:00 last night at 90th avenue and bancroft. you can see from our video part of the fire truck ended up on

top of the car. investigators say the collision did cause air bags to deploy. also this morning police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in a richmond collision that injured seven people. police say the driver of a chevy camaro collided with a pickup truck at 7:20 last night. two people in the camaro were critically injured along with a man in the truck. four other people are also injured but expected to survive. the obama administration will propose the entire country start using the special kind of gas we already have here in california. the epa says they will result in cleaner air across the country. the agent city estimates that cleaner gas would only increase prices by a penny a gallon. however oil companies say it would add as much as nine cents a gallon. the president wants the new gas in use by 2017. 6:35 is the time. sal is checking in on traffic. pretty light. a lot of people have the holiday off. i think a lot of schools and

businesses closed. >> that is true pam and brian. a lot of people have today off. we have already seen it on 237 westbound. it's usually crowded by now. you can usually see some slow traffic but we don't have any which is good news for you. if you have to use this freeway all the way over to 101. we have seen light commutes. bay bridge toll plaza. but you will also see fog on the span. so be careful there. if you're driving in the east bay livermore three ways. westbound 580 looks good from the altamont pass. that is a real sign when you see traffic looking this good. you know some people have the day off. let's go to steve. sal, thank you. well i'm standing on the fog up above for those that may be if you are listening. you are listening but not watching. there is the fog. some is right down on the ground. it's thick. up above finally a break. there could be more kind of rolling in a little bit later. most of those have lifted to the north. the cloud cover is not going away. it will be back.

but it's more in line for probably saturday and then definitely sunday as the low gets very close. but in advance of that we do have clearing taking place. a warm pattern inland today. mid 70s. you will no doubt about it feel it. some of that moisture could creep back in here a little bit later. higher clouds. over all this is a break today. rain returns over the weekend. most likely laid saturday into monday. and possibility of thunderstorms as that low comes over us. today very mild to warm conditions inland with a muggy, humid feel. mostly sunny. 70nd. mid 70s and a possibility of few pushing upper 70s. 40s a little bit cooler inland areas. but the thickest fog continues to be closer to the coast and bay. that is where you find temperatures more in the 50s. our low is not going away. it is definitely starting to move toward us as it does it will increase clouds as we get to saturday and maybe rain saturday but more likely saturday night. 70s for temps for many away

from the coast. closer to the coast and the bay 60s. it won't take long to warm up from inland temps. they will be above average today. mid 70s. a lot of low 70s across the board. 60s on the coast. dense fog on the coast. cloudy rain developing to the north bay on saturday. for everyone on sunday maybe thunderstorms as well. monday showers and clearing. tuesday looks sunny and nice. it's been a very dry winter and the low snow pack is sparking talk of water conservation. yesterday morning the later snow was taken in el dorado county. it's 32% of normal from this time of year. statewide this year snow is 52% of normal. fortunately our reservoirs are just below arch -- just below average. the city of santa cruz is taking extra precaution when it comes to the low snow pack. the city is considering water restrictions that could be put in place before summer. rainfall in the area is less

than 60% of normal for this time of year. the city council could vote on restrictions as early as april 23rd. this is a horrendous story. a warning for dental patients in the midwest. why health officials say some patients in tulsa, oklahoma may have been exposed to hiv and hepatitis. richmond offering a $25,000 reward to catch a gunman who's bullet hit a one-year-old. we'll tell you how police are generating leads and have the latest on the child's condition.

administering drugs without a license. officials are offering free testing to patients. new study shows how health insurance costs will change next year. the report says nearly 600,000 people in california who buy individual health policies will see their premiums drop. but more than a million of the states wealthy's people will see double digit increases in their peopleups. the changes won't effect 85% of californiaon januaries who -- californians who get their health care through their employers. the report says technicians falsified data on the new bah inertia bridge, bridges in southern california, and overhead sign on 580 in oakland. in all test results were reportedly faked on 11 projects. the auditor says cal trans did not immediately check the work but now says the projects are all safe. two workers received nearly $14,000 in overtime they didn't actually earn.
